CHRISTIAN EDUCATION 2008

YOUNG ADULT CLASS

Young adults, ages 18 through 45, are invited to join the Young Adults Sunday school class currently located in Room 16 at 9 a.m. on Sunday mornings.  The class will be starting a new book on January 27 by Max Lucado titled Every Day Deserves a Chance.  Gathered from wisdom of scripture, Lucado’s recipe is packed full of divine power, mercy, forgiveness, purpose and peace so that every day can have the chance it truly deserves to be a good day.  Hope Miller is leading the discussion.  Please join us!

                 LIBRARY

We know that some of you tried to use the library recently and found it in disarray.  The culprit was a leak in the roof which has now been fixed.  The library has been cleaned and reorganized, and we urge you to drop in to browse and borrow.

We also encourage you to become familiar with the following new books:  Tokens of Trust by Rowan Williams, The Apostles’ Creed For Today by Justo Gonzalez, Given For You by Louis W. Accola, Public Church For The Life Of The World by Cynthia Moe-Lobeda, and Peace by Walter Bruggeman.  You will find them on display above the sign-out desk.  The library also has a strong and growing collection of children’s books so take the children along with you and let them browse and borrow too.

EXCITING GROWTH!!

TIME TO BECOME A DISCIPLE?

Do you know of any adults who are unbaptized or have been disassociated with the church for a long time?  Are these people beginning to show an interest in the church or wondering if Christianity will fill the void they feel in their lives?  If you know such persons, invite them to come to First Lutheran to participate in the catechumenate.  There they will be welcomed, given the opportunity to ask their questions and express their doubts, and helped to understand what is meant by a life of discipleship.

One young couple began their journey through the catechumenate process in October.  They will be introduced to you soon through a Welcoming Rite.  The process will continue past the Easter Vigil, when baptisms occur, and into April.  We would be happy to have other seekers join them in this journey.  For further information call Dilys Schuettler or Pastor Brophy at 249-3310.
