PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY AND CHRISMON GROUP
The committee continues to be busy knitting shawls, which were just blessed this past Sunday (January 17). Please contact the church office if you know of someone who should receive one. Remember prayer shawls aren’t just for illnesses or sad occasions. We love to give them for happy times too. This fall and winter we have been making hats, mittens, and scarves. Project SHARE has been a very grateful recipient of the items. They send their thanks and wishes for more. People have generously donated yarn, both full skeins and remnants. We’ve used these donations for the hats and mittens. Please keep cleaning out your closets to give us your leftovers. The prayer shawls take more yarn so monetary donations are really appreciated. Anyone who wants to knit or crochet is more than welcome to participate. Our next meeting is Tuesday, February 9, at 1:00 p.m. You do not have to attend to help. Any questions contact Glendora Van Orden.

First Lutheran members, we need YOUR help even if you cannot do needlework. Ways in which you can help us include the following: Give names of people who would benefit by a prayer shawl to the church office or to a member of the ministry. We have given shawls to people in good times as well as bad times. Do you have any yarn scraps? We use them to make hats and mittens for the homeless. Please bring them to church and put them in the classroom across from the church office. Put them on the counter under the window. Each Sunday Michael’s and/or AC Moore put coupons in the papers. Please bring them to church and put them in the marked box in the narthex. We can use them to buy supplies. The coupons are only good for a week so look at your paper before coming to church. Monetary donations. We don’t need a lot of money to make the shawls. Without using coupons it costs about $16 to make a shawl. Not a lot of money to make someone happy. We could use more knitters, crocheters, and needlepointers. You do not need to attend meetings to help. Upcoming meetings will be held on October 14 and November 11 at 1 p.m. in Room 16. Please call Glendora Van Orden if you have any questions, need patterns, have donations, or have a name of a prayer shawl recipient. |
