EVANGELISM/
Effective January 1, 2008, the former Evangelism Committee became known as the Friendship Committee. The committee recommended this change in order to make us more approachable and better describes who we are and what we are about. Our slogan, “Friendship evangelism is our aim”, identifies our goal of reaching out in friendship and encouraging those seeking a place to worship with an opportunity to experience the word of God. The Friendship Committee wants to focus on reaching and encouraging those who do not have a church home or have drifted from the church. The committee consists of six members and we would love to be able to tell the members of First Lutheran not to worry about this because we, the committee will take care of all Friendship related matters. However, as you know, that cannot be done because the task is too great. Periodically, the committee will ask the congregation to assist with matters relating to friendship/evangelism in order to solidify our joint commitment to First Lutheran. Currently, the Friendship Committee is working to identify ways for conducting in-reach and out-reach. The first initiative involved the development of a monthly Birthday Social. The first celebration was held in the Martin Luther Room at the end of both services on March 2, 2008. Between the two services, an approximate total of about 35 people participated. The Friendship Committee would have loved more participation, however, as a first celebration this was encouraging. Future celebrations will occur the first Sunday each month and will be hosted by a different First Lutheran committee. When special activities are announced, all congregation members are encouraged to jump on board. The committee also encourages suggestions and recommendations in order to promote growth, new life, and energy for this very important initiative. Members of First Lutheran are encouraged to contact any of the Friendship Committee members listed below to discuss suggestions and ideas. Remember, that together we can bring new life into First Lutheran.
